Our Dress Code

Dancewear, tights and dance shoes may be purchased directly at the studio or using our online store. Please allow 2-weeks for dance shoe orders to arrive when ordering. In our online store; we have pre-selected dancewear such as leotards, tights, dance accessories that are approved for each style of class. All items will be offered at a discounted price, for members of our studio only, and will be shipped directly to your home. We will still offer select leotards, tights and dance shoes (to order) at our studio. To access our online store please visit:

Hair:
Dancers must have their hair pulled back away from their face – a bun is preferred, this is included for our preschool dancers. For dancers with hair that is too short to be put up in a bun; please have a headband or hair accessories that keeps your hair away from your face.

Dress Code By Class

Street clothes will not be allowed in class. We have the best selection of dancewear available at our studio and within our online store. The following dancewear is required for dance class:


Shining Stars | Tutu & Tumble Combo| Kidzdance/AcroDance Preschool
(Ages 2-4)
:

  • Any solid color dance leotard/dance dress. If your dancer chooses to wear a dance dress, the skirt MUST be attached to the leotard.

  • Pink tights

    • For Tutu/Tumble or AcroDance Preschool we suggest, pink convertible tight (tights that have holes in the bottom) so the dancers can wear barefeet; when needed

  • Pink ballet slippers

    • We prefer the brand we sell at the studio with no ties

ACRO:

  • Any color dance leotard and/or gymnastics leotard

  • Convertible tight (tights that have holes in the bottom)

  • Fitted shorts/leggings are acceptable

  • This class should be done in barefeet

Ballet: 

  • Any solid color leotard

  • Tights (pink tights are preferred)

  • Pink ballet slippers

  • Pointe Shoes: Pointe classes must be taken by instructor permission only. If your dancer is taking a pointe class, please be sure to have your pointe shoes checked by Kathy Coughlin. Dancers in a class labeled “pre-pointe” do not need to get pointe shoes.

Tap:

  • Any solid color leotard

  • Tan, Pink or Black Tights

  • Fitted shorts are acceptable

  • Tap Shoes: Our preferred tap shoes are available in our online dancewear website or by order at our studio.

    • (Ages 5 - 11): Tan Buckle or Tan Velcro Taps

    • (Ages 12 & Up) Int, Int/Adv or Advanced Levels: Black Tie Tap Shoes

Jazz, Jazz/Hip Hop Combo and/or Musical Theatre:

  • Any solid color leotard

  • Tan, Pink or Black Tights (convertible suggested)

  • Fitted shorts are acceptable

  • Tan Jazz shoes (preferably the brand we sell at the studio)

  • Beginner Jazz/Hip Hop Combo should be done in bare feet

Lyrical, Modern & Contemporary

  • Any solid color leotard

  • Tan, Pink or Black Tights that are convertible (with hole in the bottom)

  • These classes should be done with barefeet

Hip Hop - Intermediate Level & Up: 

  • Any solid color leotard

  • Tights are preferred, black, tan or pink

  • Fitted shorts or leggings are acceptable

  • Indoor sneakers (preferably dance/hip hop sneakers) are highly suggested for hip hop classes. Sneakers should ONLY be worn inside for class and be solid color black (logos are ok) with a white sole. These should be athletic sneakers, not Converse.

Male Students

  • Solid Color Shirt - White/Black or Navy suggested

  • Black pants or athletic shorts

  • Same shoes as listed above - ballet and tap shoes for male dancers are black.
